C. DALE MOORE

Series 1: MOVIE THEATRES
Dale’s first movie venture was to a small theatre in Hamilton Ohio, to see Peter Pan. During college, he worked the ticket booth and sold popcorn at
the Uptown Theatre, a neighborhood theatre in Indianapolis.

The Springs Theatre at 8029 Nebraska Ave. in Tampa opened in December 1944. It still stands, but is not used as a movie theatre.

I had the opportunity to camp with Chief James Billie in the Reedy Creek Swamp in the late 80s. The graphic I created is of his shirt from his vinyl, “Native Son.”

C. DALE MOORE
b. 1049, Elkhart, Indiana

The first movie Dale saw was Peter Pan, when he was oh, around 3 or 4. He still has a crayon drawing he did back then of Peter and Captain Hook. By the time the Mickey Mouse Club aired in 1955, he had already declared that he was going to be an artist for Walt Disney. His passion continued to grow while watching his heroes Davy Crockett and Zorro on TV.

Even though he dreamt of some day going to Disneyland, it wasn’t possible quite yet, living in the Midwest and then upstate New York. He did get to visit the small amusement parks in the area, like Adventure Town, which only fueled his desire to work for Disney.

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati in Design, the first step to realizing his dream happened, when he went to work for Kings Productions, where he got to design for Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Canada’s Wonderland and many other family parks and projects.

On the side, Dale featured his screen prints and woodwork in art shows and galleries in Cincinnati.

After nine years with KP, it all finally happened. Dale was hired by Walt Disney World in Orlando, starting 2 months after Epcot opened. Aside from a few years away from Disney to work for Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, and Lake Lanier Islands in Georgia, he has spent most of his design career with Imagineering in Florida, where he is to this day.
